The Limuru Three Conference, convened by the Mt. Kenya region leaders, aimed to address the region’s political and economic future. A key outcome was the formation of the Haki coalition, a new political alliance designed to unify and safeguard the region’s interests, with former President Uhuru Kenyatta reaffirmed as the region’s political leader.
During the conference, leaders voiced their deep concerns about the current Kenya Kwanza government’s policies and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s leadership. Their strong criticisms about perceived neglect and punitive taxation measures affecting the Mt. Kenya community, particularly from Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, underscore the gravity of the situation and the urgent need for change.
According to the leaders gathered, the formation of the Haki coalition at the conference was a beacon of hope, a response to the grievances, and an aim to unite the Mt. Kenya region under a common political and economic agenda. The leaders, including NARC-Kenya party leader Martha Karua and Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, stressed the crucial need for unity and collaboration across political lines, instilling optimism for a brighter future for the region.
Looking forward, the leaders emphasised the importance of continued dialogue and coordination within the region.
Plans for upcoming meetings were discussed to ensure that all leaders from the Mt. Kenya region can contribute to a unified strategy addressing political and economic challenges, thus bolstering the region’s influence nationally.
